According to the Pembina Institute's One Less Tonne Challenge ( http://www.onelesstonne.ca/ ) the standard temperature setting for water heaters is usually around 60 degrees celsius. But 49 degrees celsius is sufficient for most homes' needs, and lowering the temperature reduces energy consumption and heating bills. Water heating accounts for 22% of the greenhouse gas emissions produced by an average Canadian home.
So far, only Mita Williams, the Pledge Creator, has signed this pledge.
