Dear Official/Public Figure,
I am writing to you as a supporter of the Council of Europe’s No Hate Speech Movement. The Movement stands for equality, dignity, human rights and diversity, against hate speech and discrimination.
As a citizen I urge you to take a stand against hate speech expressions directed at LGBTQIAP(1) people and explicitly condemn acts based on gender identity and sexual orientation discrimination. We would like to encourage you to take proactive steps towards ending such practices and advancing a society of plurality and diversity.
Like other forms of hate speech, hate speech which targets people’s gender identity and/or sexual orientation happens both in the online and offline space. By signing this pledge we encourage all of our supporters to actively challenge at least one occurrence of hate speech targeting gender identity and/or sexual orientation. We ask this with the understanding that concerted and widespread action can provoke the necessary and long overdue changes that we all seek. Your agreement to sign this pledge will set an example for other actors on a national and European level.
Thank you for you commitment to take action against hate speech.
(1) LGBTQIAP - Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Pansexual
(2) IDAHO - International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia.
