Pledge “SaveXmarks”

"I will give 10 dollars right away to Xmarks and subscribe to their premium service (i.e. about 10 dollar every year) but only if 1,000 other people will do the same and Xmarks keep their service alive and continue to develop it going forward."

— Thorsten Biegner, Xmarks lover

Deadline to sign up by: 10th January 2011
1,021 people signed up (21 over target)

More details
On 27th September 2010 Todd Agulnick
Co-Founder and CTO Xmarks, Inc. announced that they will shut down Xmarks because of lack of funding see more details in his blog post.

I love Xmarks for its ability to sync across many different browsers and I was hoping soon to be able to view my Firefox Passwords on my iPhone.
I also love to be able to find out fast what other good websites exist in a particular category that is how I found out about and many other awesome websites :-)
Xmarks is the first plug-in I install on every machine its just a MUST HAVE service.

If 1000 people sign this pledge Xmarks could get 10,000 $ right away and 10,000 $ every year should probably at least keep the service running and if more people join in it could become a profitable business. So if you love Xmarks as much as we do and it's worth some money to you; join the pledge for Xmarks to become some sort of subscription service.

This pledge has now closed; it was successful!

  • Please, keep the service in the air! Your product is so awesome, it would be disappointing to see it go.
Is there a place where we can pay for the service right away?

    Have faith.

    Kind regards, Roeland

  • There's no other service like this that I'm aware of and having to go back to life before Xmarks would be far too painful and tedious. Even $25/year would be worth it imho. Hope to see Xmarks around a lot longer!
Mac, 11 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • APPLE should BUY Xmarks and ship it with the next version of Safari. How about that?
JIP, 11 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • Holly shit!!! I will pay $50 dollars a year. (all who well it will be Canadian $$$$.:)) When X mark send me an email that they were shutting down I start looking for a replacement, and ques what THERE IS NOTHING OUT THERE THAT CAN REPLACE IT. maybe I can buy shares in this company I am always looking for a +++ investment. I only would advise X mark to us e PAY PALL that way everyone is guaranteed a save transaction

  • I would gladly pay the 20 dollars a year; I would gladly pay 60 a year! Please do not let this service die! Contact me if this really might happen, I will invest to keep you alive!

  • XMarks is very convenient and worth every 15 dollar penny!

  • I love this service as my work takes me all around the country
Gerald Marquardt, 11 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • Pay for XMarks. You bet! A really useful app and its closure would be a real loss. Would happily donate $20 or so to keep it going.
Rod Keen, 11 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • XMarks rocks! I would gladly pay $25 per year for an annual subscription. I think it would be better, however, if they offered an auto-debit, monthly payment option at $3 per month. Everyone can spare $3 per month. Done in this way, this fee would hardly even be noticed.

The XMarks folks have been giving us all something really valuable for several years now. In my opinion, they deserve to make back a ton of money. As others have also said, just set up a Visa payment screen, let me know, and I'll be there!

    Thank you, XMarks

  • The idea above regarding investing in XMarks is also totally AWESOME. Make a public offering, please. I'd be delighted to invest in "XMarks, Inc."

And how about this? Give Dick Parsons a call. The GoDaddy guy. Now, there's a master businessman, if there ever was one. I'd bet he would be interested. What we need is for Mr. Parsons to buy the company, and we need some XMarks Girls on flashy Superbowl commercials. The the XMarks culture and life would really be sweet.

  • I am seeing a oppurtunity here to develop similar or better than xmark software so and charge as less as $5.00 (Lifetime).

    see you soon !
  • many people underestimate the cost of running a service for 2 million users, it's very complex. In this article they say they have spend 9 million $ already

  • I love this service! It is worth much more than 10$ a year. I would pay 50$

  • Ich möchte gerne SOFORT 10 EUR überweisen!!! Wohin wohin???
YMarks is the best!!! So other tool can synchronise between different browsers. We NEED YOU!!!
  • I'd be willing to pay on a monthly or yearly basis for this service. It's an awesome service, but I don't understand where to send the $10.00 I've pledged to give immediately. For the long term, I'd be willing to pay up to $50 a year for this.

  • I've set up my own server for Xmarks so I don't rely on the service, but I'd really hate to see the development of the Firefox add-on cease. At some point the add-on would inevitably stop working.

I've seen many synching solutions, and most of them have all kinds of issues. Xmark (and before that Foxmarks) has never let me down; it has worked like a charm.
Stefan Hinz, 11 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • WE need to get more people on board for the Pledge....we have to save Xmarks. One of the greatest programs I have even had or used. Simple and just plain awesome. At $10 or $20 a year that is a steal, with all the viruses and things that can cause a system crash, Xmarks is the most important single program out there.

  • Xmarks is one of my core apps that I install on new or updated systems. I use it every day for multiple browsers on different systems. I'll happily pay $10-$20 annually for the ability to synchronize all of my bookmarks.

  • I find it odd that Xmarks has not even tried a cost model before announcing this!
I and many others (as illustrated by pledges) would happily pay $10-$20 /year for this indispensible service.
William, 11 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • Only 10-20$? Ok, no problems. I'll pay it for so useful service! =)
  • Xmarks is great
  • I would pay 10-20 dollars annually without hesitation for Xmarks. Cross browser sync is one of the most valuable tools for me I use the 3 primary browsers and multiple OS setups I would prefer to not live without it.

  • The xmarks blog says they are working on a way to save the company and so the service will not be going away. Just follow the blog and see what happens. The pledges worked, but now we have to wait and see what happens.
Robert Casto, 11 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • I'm in, $15/y would be fine with me. But you should keep the ability to store info on the user's server for free (that's the cool thing about this one, and that's also the killer feature of TeamDrive as opposed to Dropbox)
Jan, 11 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • A pity I did not hear about this before. I would also pay 10 $/year.

  • For quality service like xmarks, I would give $50/yr.
  • I'd have no problem what so ever with paying 10 dollars a year to continue using xmarks. That's a bargain!
Hans Jørgen Varfjell, 10 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • In the age of ever-increasing complexity, Xmarks keeps it simple. PLEASE let us keep Xmarks. 10-20 bucks is no big deal for this service.
David Fayram, 10 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • Don't shut down the nice service of Xmarks. Let's extend the development to make Xmarks even better.
The beauty of Xmark is obvious as soon as you realize that you can not just depend on using only one browser. Then you will appreciate the use of Xmarks to synch the bookmarks etc across browsers.
At work you are quite often foreced to use IE, due to some corporate decision to depend on MS, but would prefer to use e.g. FF or Chrome.
Therefore, the need for Xmarks is an abosolute neccessity. I hope you all agree, thus there is no equvivanent alternative available. Browsers are just keen on synching between clients and not cross browsers.
A yearly fee of $10 is reasonable to be paid by the current vast subscribe base of Xmark users. Let's gooooo for it!

  • I am a little confused…

According to a message on the Xmarks blog, posted on Thursday, we are supposed to hold the amount pledged in order to subscribe to the program when its Premium version will be available.

If I understand it correctly –, you should maybe post an update instructing people to do just that until further notice from Xmarks in order to avoid later double payment issues regarding subscriptions.
Anna Lippert, 10 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • Hi Xmarks I really like your service and hope you will continue with a subscription service in the new year. I hope this contribution helps a bit.
A big thank you for your great product.

  • Pay the money! - don't just sign the pledge. Too much rubbish proliferates as it is commercially viable and so much that is good sinks without trace due to lack of finance. Xmarks is way better than the other offerings and that includes FireFox Sync. Pay up or lose it!

    Complete your Xmarks pledge today!

We need your support - only 18% of users who pledged an Xmarks donation have followed through by going Premium!

    Oh' what a surprise!

Btw, I'll support Xmarks only if they fix existing problems with Chrome and if they add support for WP7, ... ^^
