More details
The plan for a National Identity Card scheme is an invasive threat to privacy and yet will achieve nothing.

Today the Government announced that contracts to supply computer equipment and manage the application and issuing of cards have been put out to tender.

A boycott of a company's services -- for example changing phone and internet provider from BT to another firm -- is a simple way to make them think twice about whether they want the job.

  • Forgetting the human rights, terrorism etc etc. I refuse to support the government in a large scale IT project, since their record is abysmally clear. CSA, tax online etc.
Allen Clark, 12 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • Allen: quite so.

I asked the ID and passport service a question a while back using the form thing on their website, and they somehow managed to reply to the wrong email address even though I'd typed mine into a form for them.

  • The problem about the pledge - what if the company is involved in one of the thousands of benefits systems there are? Do you return your child benefit or winter fuels allowance, your tax refunds etc?
Peggy Webb, 12 years ago. Abusive? Report it!
  • Peggy -- no, since you don't really have a choice there. I only meant other services where it's easy to change to a different provider, such as the example I gave of switching phone and internet to a company other than BT.
