More details
Ada Lovelace Day is an international day of blogging to draw attention to women excelling in technology. Women's contributions often go unacknowledged, their innovations seldom mentioned, their faces rarely recognised. We want you to tell the world about these unsung heroines. Whatever she does, whether she is a sysadmin or a tech entrepreneur, a programmer or a designer, developing software or hardware, a tech journalist or a tech consultant, we want to celebrate her achievements.
It doesn't matter how new or old your blog is, what gender you are, what language you blog in, or what you normally blog about - everyone is invited to take part. All you need to do is sign up to this pledge and then publish your blog post any time on Tuesday 24th March 2009. If you're going to be away that day, feel free to write your post in advance and set your blogging system to publish it that day.
We will gather as many of the posts together on the day as we can, and we'll let you know exactly how we're going to do that nearer the time. For ongoing updates about Ada Lovelace day, please follow us on Twitter, join our mailing list or see our blog.

Who was Ada?
Ada Lovelace was one of the world's first computer programmers, and one of the first people to see computers as more than just a machine for doing sums. She wrote programmes for Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine, a general-purpose computing machine, despite the fact that it was never built. She also wrote the very first description of a computer and of software.

"AdaLovelaceDay09" for Delicious, Technorati etc. It's long, but clear.
"#ALD09" for Twitter hashtags.

Unfortunately, I can't!
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=47...
This should help Facebookers keep track of the event, and also make it easier for you to tell others about it!
BUT, please set up an account on http://identi.ca/ so open-microblogging people can follow you, too!
When you post there you can have it automatically be posted on Twitter, too, so it's not as though it would be more work - just set up and configure an account and post from there!
So obviously, I am 100% behind Ada Lovelace day, great idea!
How about a Facebook group? That's a great way to spread the word, too...
Great idea, I better do some research...
Another interesting woman in technology was Admiral Grace Hopper, who worked with the first computers in the Navy. She found an actual bug in her computer and that's why we use the term 'bug' for something that messes up your program.
Good luck with your project!
I'm planning to cheat as I have several blogs and want to write about a different women (who is relivant) for each blog.
Apologies for the spellings.
Your text seems to eliminate the second possibility...

All the best!
I am so glad boingboing.net blogged about Ada. My article is up and running, plus I've emailed female PHP coders, who NEVER heard of her. I'm not even a "trained" programmer, but ran across her name here and there.
Thank you Suw for a brilliant initiative. I hope this becomes an annual event.
Note - my name is appearing twice in the pledge list with one showing completed and one not. Would you mind removing the duplicate (uncompleted) one please?
Many thanks to Suw for this great initiative and for prompting me to create a blog.
What a great way to honour Ada and the many other inspiring women who have followed in her footsteps.

She graduated from Cambridge at 18 and worked with Kodak in the early days of photography. She would have loved to see all the blogs today - I've added a blog to her on my site, and dedicate my pledge to her.

Soon, I will launch my site that links the metros of London, Paris and México, thus you can have a virtual journey through the sounds of these three acoustic environments, on Internet.
As a branch of this work, I have worked in a networked off-line improvisation called "Listening and Remembering", for commuters and their voice (in México and Paris), in collaboration with Peter Batchelor.
Technology for me is not a goal, but a set of powerful cultural tools to analyse, experiment with, and extend the perceptions of the world. My recent artistic work is mainly based on ethnographic work with commuters: http://soundingunderground.wordpress.com
I am inspired and feel encouraged with women's work in art and technology:
Pauline Oliveros: her outstanding work in electronic music and the continuous innovation in the use of technologies extending her philosophy of deep listening.
http://www.deeplistening.org/site/artist...
IONE: her networking dynamic, stimulating women's art and power through dream work, using telecircles.
http://www.deeplistening.org/site/artist...
Serena Alexander: Strong electroacoustic textures and gestures, clean and master work, extending the power of her voice.

Jess Laccetti: a master blogger!

Noemí Peña: researcher in high technology to create "Custom Ceramic Products"

The list is long...
How about yours? I wrote in Bangla(5th most spoken language in whole world by 300million people including Bangladesh).
I've passed along this wonderful information.

I still thought I had time to post I am at Pacific time but it looks closed already.
I just want everyone to know I am a huge supporter of Women in Technology. I even co-founded a sorority at the University of Minnesota Women in Technology for college students.
Since then I have it made it my platform to see women succeed in technology.
Recently, I ran for Mrs. Corporate America in Florida two weeks ago and I won! Women in Technology is my platform. My goals are
- Creating Mentoring Opportunities for Women in Technology
- Empowering Women to Break the Glass Ceiling in the Technology Field
- Empowering Women to Earn the Same Pay and Leadership Positions
- Nurturing Science and Technology Within the School Systems
I will do this with public speaking opportunities. If you know of anyone that needs a public speaker please contact me. You can schedule an appearance at www.mrscorporateamerica.com
I'm proud of all you and lets keep reaching for the stars.
Thanks,
Sonja Fisher
