Under the new leadership of Kirsty Williams, the Welsh Liberal Democrats have pledged to broaden the diversity of Lib Dems elected to public office in Wales.

To be able to effectively support candidates from currently under-represented backgrounds, we need money.

The 'Kirsty Williams Diversity Fund' will be used to give additional support to women, BME and LGBT candidates, candidates with a disability and candidates from less priviledged backgrounds.

The money will be allocated in two streams; one for council elections and one for Parliamentary and Assembly seats.

  • If we aim to change society, we should try and reflect it. When you attend Conference, and particularly when you look back at the body of the hall from the podium, you realise how much this initiative is needed; few wheelchair users, few obvious BME delegates, more male than female speakers as a rule, let alone those elements of diversity that are not immediately obvious.
