More details
Ryton is a car manufacturing plant near Coventry owned by Peugeot. Earlier this year Peugeot announced it was going to close Ryton with the loss of 2,300 jobs at the factory and a further 1,700 jobs of people who supply the factory. Production is being moved to Slovakia where wages are much lower.
You would think that taking such a drastic step that will destroy the local economy is a sign Peugeot is a company with real problems. This is not true.
Peugeot made a profit of 1 billion euro last year, Ryton itself is a profitable plant and the UK is Peugeot's third biggest market! Peugeot are closing Ryton and sacking thousands of workers so they can make even more profit.
Trade unions have called for a boycott of all Peugeot products until Peugeot reverses its decision to close Ryton. Writing to Peugeot informing them of the boycott will make it clear the scale of the opposition to the greedy, unprincipled decision to close Ryton and is a vital part of a successful boycott.
