Pledge “onemonthamnesty”

"I will do something for Amnesty International every day for a month but only if 19 other people will do the same."

Deadline to sign up by: 31st July 2008

More details
Every day for a month (pick a month, any month), I'll do something for Amnesty International, and I'd like you to do the same. It might be something as simple as clicking on the free donation button at http://stopviolence.care2.com/. It might be putting up a poster or rambling about Amnesty International to a friend in the pub. It might be adding your face and your voice to the Control Arms campaign (http://www.controlarms.org/). It might be writing a letter, fax or email to help someone, somewhere, right now (http://www.amnesty.org/actnow/).

I want to do this, and I want you to do this, because it's important. Because Amnesty International are a great organisation. Because I'm making puppy-dog eyes at you, personally, right now. But mostly, because there's a lot of really bad things happening in the world, and we can help stop that. We can be the people who stood up and spoke out, not the people who sat down and shut up.

  • I made a blog to keep track of this pledge and stuff I'm doing for it, over at http://onemonthamnesty.blogspot.com. I'm also collecting a list of useful links down the side, which should make daily action easier. Please go and check it out, and feel free to leave a comment.
  • Great pledge, Lorna! Keep circulating the pledge -- it would be great to get even more folks involved! And note that we now have a Facebook application ("Pledges"), so if you're on that site you can share your pledge that way. You can also add a widget to your blog that will track the pledge's progress. Check out the purple and yellow boxes above for those tools. Keep up the good work!

  • Amnesty International are a thoroughly undemocratic organisation, they held a ballot amounsgt their members on abortion, the members voted against changing their position to one supporting it, and they then decided to do so anyone. What hypocrites.

  • Oops I haven't done my pledge yet (I clicked that link saying I had by accident) but I am starting on Friday 1st Feb. I will write what I'm doing for Amnesty on my blog. Go to http://ginasscribbles.blogspot.com
  • I've added my blog at http://pledgeaction.blogspot.com using the label: onemonthamnesty , to distinguish this topic from other pledges, that I might do in the future.
