Pledge “nokia-ogg”

"I will buy the upcoming Nokia N810 tablet once management promises Ogg Vorbis support but only if 10 other people will do the same."

— Michel, who otherwise really likes Nokia

Deadline to sign up by: 31st December 2007
27 people signed up (17 over target)

More details
The third Nokia Internet Tablet is scheduled to be released in mid-November. They've added many features over the past two years (Skype, video camera, GPS, etc.) but not Ogg Vorbis playback support yet -- stating lack of consumer demand.

If you're planning to buy an N810, but want Nokia to address this issue, please sign this pledge and hold off on purchasing until management hears us!

  • It's not? Why?

  • It says this pledge has been succesful, but I'm not aware of any news that Nokia is implementing support for Ogg Vorbis? Or is it simply succesful because X number of people have signed the pledge?

  • It's just based on how many people have signed up. The last word from Nokia is still that this is something for third-party projects to support, but annoyingly, even if you install Ogg codecs, the default media player still can't play Ogg Vorbis files (other players can, though. Hopefully including the upcoming Canola 2.0)

  • Does this N810 supports AIM messenger, MSN messenge, Yahoo messenge etc .. or it only supports G Talk ... And can we ablt to do the browsing as we do it in a laptop. Will it support third party applications. Any one please tell me, if you know and does any one know whin is it going to launch in india? . . .

  • Hi Kishore,

You can install Pidgin to get all the other protocols, and Nokia is developing support for all these protocols using the standard client (still in beta).

The browser's based on the same engine as Firefox (gecko), and has a Flash plugin. Greasemonkey scripts that do not depend on Firefox's UI can also be used.

Not sure about Indian launch date -- ask Ari Jaaksi at arijaaksi.blogspot.com ? You can probably find someone on eBay who will sell you either an N800 or N810.
  • I also want N810 but where can I buy it Namibia?
  • Please tell me the when this product will be released in Pakistan.
