Outdoor heaters are evil. I can think of few things more wasteful than heating outdoor air. Wear a jumper!!!

  • Amen!
  • I think we have more important things to be contacting our MPs about right now, rather than requesting another piece of excessively controlling legislation.

Wasteful or not, I don't imagine the energy used by these things is particularly significant.

  • Actually you're probably right Seymour :)

  • Great idea. In the midst of the most authoritarian peacetime government this country has known in at least 100 years, let's all send a message that we would like them to be even more authoritarian and petty, please.

  • I signed this because I do support "nannying" legislation which addresses the environmental crisis we are mindlessly creating. Tax those everyday items which are wasteful, self-indulgent and unnecessary. Patio heaters are just that.
  • More fascism in Britain. Yey! All based on junk science than has to be changed with the wind, to fit the agenda.
  • Never mind a levy - I think you should call for an outright ban

  • Unfortunately it looks as though this pledge will not get enough supporters by the deadine. I suggest that Georgina extends the deadline to allow more people to sign up.

I wrote to Friends of the Earth and they are now promoting this pledge on their site here: http://community.foe.co.uk/

  • Thank you John. I will ask pledgebank to extend the deadline and make an effort to promote it a bit more.

  • Local Councils should be educating their residents about patio heaters. If sales of these awful things don't come down significantly, then the Government should ban them.

  • Calling for a government ban makes me despair. Every ban imposed is a loss of our civil liberties. Calling for a government ban on such a trivial thing makes me wonder just how many people really DO want to live in a totalitarian rather than an enlightened society.

I think there should be a ban on stupid bans.

  • Patio heaters make a total mockery of efforts to curb CO2 output. I hate the nanny state, but the government must take steps to ban these foul creations.
  • these patio heaters are only an issue because of the ban on smoking indoors, you can't have it both ways, if there was no ban on smoking, there would be no need for the patio heaters
