Cheap flights and an increasingly global society mean the skies are full of more planes than ever before. This pledge is something of a protest at the ever more reliance we place on both long and short distance flights. However, as we know we can't expect all flights to simply stop, our first step is to cut back on those which are, at the end of the day, unnecessary.
There are many places reachable by rail, etc that we have yet to see or even discover. By signing this pledge, we are trying to break the tie between exploration and remote places, between fun and exoticness.
