friendOfGnash, I do not have access to Gnashdev.org and openmedianow.org, so I can't blog there. I would of course love it if some of the Gnash developers would mention the pledge there, but suspect the lead developer Rob, which I know have access, is too busy.

As for a thermomenter, I guess you can count grean Vs next to names on the pledge to see how it goes. :)

Any plans for blogging this pledge on Gnashdev.org and openmedianow.org

Petter, Dennis ?

Maybe with a target amount and a thermometer showing progress?

Dennis, as far as I know it is not possible to edit a pledge once it is published.

So we will have to rely on word of mouth and the ability to read the commends for this one. :)

Petter-Does this web site allow you to edit the top left statements to request as many donors as possible. That way new visitors do not necessarily have to read the comments at the lower right.

drd, all these ideas to get points to this pledge sound like good ideas. Please go ahead and spread the word as much as possible. :)

While searching on the net stumbled upon the below - http://blog.wiserearth.org/openwiser-a-successful-crowdsourcing-fundraising-effort/

Maybe we can get some pointers - How about starting a Twitter/Facebook page. Also we can discuss with Rob if possibly we can have some mention of this pledge drive on the gnashdev websites?

What say?

Ten is a good goal. It was achieved in a day. Someone else should start a new pledge. For all the naysayers: DON'T HATE... DONATE!

drd, I have used most avenues I had available/knew about to spread the word, and welcome help with spreading the message. The more people participate, the more funding will find its way to the Gnash project and I am convinced all resources flowing to the project will translate into a better Free Software Flash experience for all of us. :)

So please spread the word. 10 people was the minimum to get the pledge going, but 100 people would be better. :)

In this and other avenues it may be good to state that $1000 is an absolute minimum and that $5000 (50 people) is probably a better minimum.

Petter - Are you planning more avenues to spread the word about this pledge? Can the link be posted to places like freesoftwaremagazine.com, ubuntu forums etc? It would help maybe if more people are aware of this pledge drive.

The math seems a bit off:
"I will pay 100$ to the Gnash project ... if 10 other people will do the same."
Me + 10 others = 11.

"9 people have signed up, 1 more needed"
9 + 1 = 10.

As far as I can tell, the Lightspark project has no intention to support all existing Flash applications on the web today, while Gnash have this as the goal. The current approach in Lightspark to try to detect AVM1 files and pass them on to Gnash only work for some Flash applications, and as far as I know can not work for all of them.

Thus I have more belief in Gnash as a general replacement for Adobe Flash, and focus on Gnash for this pledge.

Lightspark is nice, do not get me wrong there, but its scope is too limited to fit my needs.

Why in the nine hells do you want to raise money for Gnash if you can have Lightspark (maybe this pledge should be altered to support Lightspark?), which should soon be able to replace the proprietary Flash player and at the same time use hardware acceleration. See http://lightspark.sf.net/ for further details (yes, atm Lightspark falls back to Gnash for the old stuff, but the new (ActionScript 3) is handled by Lightspark). Debian Developers can use the packages available in Debian. ;)

Important notice: I'm not affiliated with Lightspark or its devs.
