Pledge “education-truth”

"I will show my support for AHEd (ahed.org.uk) and home educators in general by e-mailing Alan Johnson MP (Johnsona@parliament.uk), Secretary of State for Education, calling for the term “compulsory school age” to be replaced with “compulsory education age” in the Education and Inspections Act 2006. This will more accurately reflect the truth that it is NOT compulsory to send ANY child to school, but only if 20 other people will do the same."

  • OK guys - thanks so much for supporting my idea.

I wrote it in a rush in the excitement of seeing that AHEd had so many new members so ready to be PROACTIVE in support of education without school. B4 we all write to AJ we need to be sure about what we can actually expect. It may be too late to directly amend the Act - I don't know, blooming political process is designed to confuddle us mere humans - but not too late to create some new legislation that amends it, so wording of your letters to him will need to be clear to prevent a political brush off.

I'll sleep on it and then comment again - or perhaps wake up to see someone else has the perfect answer :-)

Thanks again for pledging support - days to go yet before we all appeal to mr johnson and I hope MANY more will join us b4 the deadline - if you're reading this and haven't pledged - don't assume a successful pledge means a successful project -the more the merrier and the more chance of actually attaining the REAL target - not just 20 supporters.

pledgebank suggested I did not ask for more than 20 supporters - they had no idea how passionate non school users can be!

  • Thanks for your pledge Clare. It is time we put an end to this misuse of words that leads the public to believe a lie, i.e. that school is compulsory.
