<description>If I can persuade, say, Lib-Dems or Greens to vote Tory (the nearest party to Labour in Hove) instead and thereby raise the Tory vote by 500 votes then Labour loses. Thats the essence of tactical voting - it doesn't just have to be confined to previous Labour voters although there is clear value in Labour voters in particular switching away.
