Pledge “TOYBOYCOTT”

"I will not buy a toy that can be chewed on, sucked on, or swallowed for any toddlers that has been manufactured in China… Or until there is significant evidence that controls have been put into place that prevent “accidental” lead contamination 100%. Yes, I want to see reports. I will find other gifts that won’t risk my children’s health… and I will inform my family and friends that potentially toxic toys will not be accepted either, but only if 50 other people will do the same."

— Claudia, Head Toy Purchaser of the House!

More details
Quite frankly, I will do this regardless of the number of people that sign this pledge. But for the sake of the pledge I’m looking for at least 50 signatures. I'd love to see Thousands!

CHRISTMAS is coming. Are you going to gift a toxin? Or are you going to help gift such a financial blow to the toy companies that keep producing toxic toys they have NO CHOICE but to REALLY do something about it.

In the last several weeks Mattel has recalled over 9 million toys due to paint contaminated with “excessive amounts of lead paint” (as stated in many articles) and magnets that potentially become dislodged. If ingested, lead paint and magnets can cause serious life threatening medical conditions. In short, lead can cause brain damage and possible death. Magnets can get lodged in the intestines apparently preventing proper elimination, causing a body to become toxic and sometimes death.

To stay up to date on current recalls see the attached site: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/categ...

The fact that there is an acceptable amount of lead that can be contaminating our children’s toys is appalling to me. It’s bad enough that poor design can be a risk. But to include known toxins, or to not be aware of their inclusion is not a risk I’m willing to take with my child’s life.

Normally, I do not have any problems with exporting production of items to lower the purchasing cost of a product. In theory, this offers consumers better pricing and gives jobs to people all over the world. However, at this juncture, the potential price of a child’s health is too high. And let’s face it. When a child dies from lead poisoning or blocked intestines a very sad story will be printed. People will take heed for a few minutes and the toy company still makes their profits. Well, they might issue an apology with a statement that says they take safety seriously, and they will look into it.

There are several depressed economies within the United States. Perhaps some of them could do with a toy manufacturing company that could be more closely regulated. Yes, toys might be more expensive. People will be making at least minimum wage, perhaps get medical benefits and, who knows, maybe even get off of public welfare. Toys companies might have to take a smaller margin. I believe a smaller margin is better than NO MARGIN!

NO LEAD IN OUR TOYS!!! Period… not one drop!
