More details
The House of Reeves is a furniture store that existed for nearly 150 years in Croydon until 8th August 2011 when it was burned down during the riots.
This pledge exists to help with the rebuilding of the store that was owned and run by five generations of the Reeves family.
Payments (added 18 August 2011): Reeves have set up an account independent of the company, the funds from which will go to regeneration in the Reeves Corner area. If you want to make your payment to that, you can pay online at:

This is such a great idea Mark. David
I hope that the 1000 signatures come-in
But I am DAMNED if I am going to allow a bunch of thugs destroy forever something that has survived 140 years, two world wars and a depression.
It's a symbol that demonstrates what can be achieved in a free society by working hard and it must be rebuilt.
Have you considered contacting Paypal, explaining to them what this cause is about & seeing if they will let you use a Paypal account to collect the pledges and where they won't take their normal cut?
Good luck to the Reeves family, and to all of those who are struggling to rebuild their businesses and livelihoods.
I have also had my faith in humanity restored by all the kindness and help that has appeared since. The RiotCleanup on Twitter is amazing. It shows that people do really care. Well done Mark, you're one of the many many great people in other socieity.
I was horrified by the scene on the TV and a big Thank you Mark for giving us this opportunity to demonstrate our support for those who have lost so much in the last few days
Croydon was my own, & some of my family's birthplace.~~Maurice & I were class mates in junior school ("Ladymount")in Beddington~Until the war disrupted all our lives~~~Well we were all able to survive the Blitz~ That's what we call "Good old British Grit" & we all call upon that to get us through!!~Wishing you Maurice, & all your dear ones, & your staff, all the very best for your swift recovery.

Let's not forgot the employees of this place - it's not only the rebuilding of the premises that's important. This pledge money should help the employees in the meantime so they're not forced into benefits and poverty.
I doubt the business has money put aside to help pay them if it's not trading, and insurance definately won't cover that.
Let me know where I can pay and I'll be right there!
It lets you take donations without being a charity.
I've used it for an African School's project.

I don't expect it will change your mind but the purpose of the pledge is quite clear and you don't have to pledge if you don't think it's a worthy cause.
There are already all sorts of campaigns for other businesses and people launching and running and good luck to all of them. There are loads of people affected by these riots and I hope all of them get all the help they need. Indeed I intend to contribute to some of them myself and I suspect others who have pledged here will do so too. They do not have to be mutually exclusive.
My heartfelt condolences especially to the Reeves family and also to the people of Croyden.
Well done Mark
Bravo Mark and I look forward to learning details of where to donate to. x
Like many I was particularly moved when Sky News spoke to the family about this. Was upsetting.
Ive used the text messaging service although not quite sure how it works - does the £10 just come off my bill?
Great cause!!
I hope this helps to restore the publics and family's faith in human nature.

It was destroyed in hours by selfish and heartless creatures.
Best of luck to the Reeves family and their staff. And thanks to Mark for giving us the opportunity to show our support.
Message to all fellow pledgers, the email from Mark on how to pay arrived in my JUNK MAIL ..
Thank you Mark
Thanks again Mark and to all the other pledgers, now let's give what we pledged as quickly as we can!
It would be helpful to have a 'done' facility more easily available for big petitions, esp with not so broadband mobile PC users - perhaps as an option next to sign in.
To do this, click "Login" or "My Pledges" at the top right of the page. Once you're logged in, you'll see "Have you now done what you pledged?" and a "Yes!" button. Click the button.
Note that it's an honesty-based system, as we have no way of checking whether people actually have contributed, but we're really pleased to help in coordinating this project. Thank you, people!
Good luck and best wishes!
