More details
Musers, The Music Therapy Education and Research centre is a non-profit NGO in Bosnia and Hercegovina having been the Music Therapy Department of the Pavarotti Music Centre since 1998 providing services to the traumatized and special needs children of Mostar in BiH. Until June 2004, the department was funded by Warchild NL and the music therapy team provided a much needed service to traumatized, orphaned and special needs children and refugees. In the fall of 2004 Warchild UK provided funding to sustain and maintain continuity in the treatment of children who were in the most need.
As of this June funding runs out and this experienced music therapy team comprised of both international and local professionals will have to close the doors after 8 years of community outreach work. The team works on both sides of the city as well as in outlying districts and towns ensuring that children from all ethnicities have access to the treatment. The centre contains 8 years of knowledge and expertise in the area of post war treatment of trauma and is on the verge of developing a four pronged development plan that includes training of more local music therapists in BiH, inclusion of special needs children in the school system, enhanced clinical work in all mental health sectors of the community and capacity building as a globally recognized centre of excellence in treatment and research.
Musers is on the verge of actualizing this vision, but they desperately need financial support.
100 pounds will provide therapy for 40 children for two weeks.
21 x 100 will provide a full treatment cycle for 40 children over 6 months.
50 x 100 pounds will give the whole team one more month to serve 74 children.
