More details
Reports and video evidence of the cat and dog fur trade in China shows a trade that defies belief, such is the cruelty. You can see more information, and video footage at http://www.peta.org.uk/feat/dogcatfurUK.... although this is shocking stuff.

Dogs and cats are bludgeoned, hanged, tied with wire, crammed into cages which are thrown about, strangled with wire nooses and bled to death. All for a fur trim for trinkets. A recent undercover investigation shocked seasoned investigators who thought they'd seen it all.

I've rung the Embassy and this doesn't seem to be taken as a priority, so we need more people to do this. Will you help?

  • Until china starts behaving in a responsible and civilised way I will be boycotting all products from China, Sorry.

  • It came to my attention 7+ years ago that dog breeders are constantly being contacted by Chinese dealers wanting to purchase pups for export to China. The export of dogs in to China is illegal so they are smuggled in via Hong Kong. Please visit the Dogs In Asia website for more information www.dogsinasia.com Dogs In Asia's aim is to put the word out to breeders NOT to export to the far east. I will add your pledge to the Take Action page of the website.
  • I founded and run my own charity which helps strays abroad (Paws In Need reg charity 1110537)yet I campaign as a private person against the monstrous cruelty to dogs and cats in China (and Korea). It is unbelievable that companies, including travel companies, still support China, whilst repeated complaints I have sent to The Olympic Committee in Geneva were finally answered with the assurance they would hold the events in major cities, that is, out of sight of the atrocities!!! Big Deal. So how disgusting that China, the most infamous place on earth where baby girls are dumped for being just that - born female, is allowed to be the host of the World Games!!! Everyone who is outraged should constantly write and phone all media (and all travel companies to take China out of their brochures and hit China where it hurts) The press and media have enormous power to bring pressure yet very often they do nothing - remind them constantly. I do! I write a minmum of 50 postal letters every month - all with graphic evidence attached. - Suzanne Thorpe.

  • I was also sent a leaflet from the World Children's Rescue Fund saying, and I quote '1.7 millions girls are abandoned in China each year. Hundreds of thousands of others are killed at birth'. This is due to the single child policy implemented 20 years ago in China. As I have already written, it is therefore disgraceful that big business supports this country and that the press does not constantly condemn all the atrocities, both in China and Korea. Paul McCartney, by contrast , is wonderful about speaking out and has publicly stated he will not perform in China until they eradicate this cruelty. (There are no animal protection laws in China and no animal aid charities). I will not go into detail here as I see no point in distressing people who have hearts and humanity, but I have witnessed photographs and written accounts of the most appalling suffering of dogs and puppies, cats and kittens and I can never forget the look of pain, fear and betrayal on their little faces. God bless everyone who does something every week about this. Even one letter to the press is better than doing nothing. - Suzanne Thorpe, Paws In Need.

  • I have been told there are compassionate people in China, and some kind attitudes towards animals. My motivation in starting this pledge is to bring pressure where it is needed: governmental level. Regardless of kindness that exists or doesn't at individual level, there needs to be government involvement.

I agree that there should be international pressure and hope in some small way between us we can bring some via this pledge.
